Sorrowful Mother Medal

This medal has some history. One story is of an order using it for their habit. The Canossian religious sisters in Italy. St. Josephine Bakita was one of their order (Feast day September 15.) The devotion to the seven sorrows is connected to this image of the Sorrowful Mother, an approved apparition in Africa in 1980.  This encouraged the devotion of the seven sorrows rosary. This devotion was first developed by the Servit's based on Simeons prophecy. The devotion originated in the 13th century, by the Servants of Mary commonly known as the Sevite's.
