St. Peter’s Catholic Church
& Blessed Mary’s Place in the Plains
Retreat Center
I’ve been working on this Retreat Center for some time now because I wanted someplace for the people of God to have a place to reflect on his power and mercy.
Here is a place to get away from the stress and demands of everyday life and get back to the simplicity of silence in your life.
I call this Blessed Mary’s Place in the Plains because of my love for her and she is Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, and without her there would be no physical Body of Jesus to be present in the Eucharist (see John 6:51)

St. Peter’s Church around 1920
This idea of a retreat center started when I first moved to the plains of Colorado. I was researching the history of the area and found out that St. Peter’s Catholic Church was built in 1913 on 5 acres of land donated by a parishioner. When the Rectory was built, IN 1919, the local paper said, “This is the finest Mission Rectory in the state, with it’s own lights and water system,” the school, in 1920 and all this was supported by the 50 families in the parish. Then in 1952 the Parish Hall was built by, you quest it, 50 parishioners. After reading about the history of St. Peter’s Parish I found out that they were going to get rid of the Rectory, so I decided to buy it.
At first I was going to move it and use it as a private residence, then the idea of a retreat house started to blossom in my mind.
The reason I mention this, is I couldn’t let the history of this dedicated catholic community, like others through out the state, be lost. These communities would grow through faith, family and hard work (on their farms, in their homes, in small towns and in the community). In return the country grew one community at a time to make things better for all families.
This is the true meaning of Faith, Family and Country.
Go through the Blessed Mary’s Retreat Center library and read about their faith and see historical pictures of the families who live here. This is an opportunity for you to be removed from the bustling world of the 21st century city and its gadgets. Come and enter a quieter time in the history of rural America and be in Gods country.
The Great Plains of Colorado offers a rich vista from horizon to horizon of an open landscape. The sun can rise and set, and watch you all day long, in turn, you have the space, tranquility and peace of mind to reflect on what the lord Jesus Christ has given you.
God Bless.
St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Hall are next door to the Blessed Mary’s Retreat Center, which is located 8 miles south and 1 mile east of Fleming, CO.. This is in northeast corner of the Great Plains of Colorado at an elevation of about 4000 ft.

The summers are warm and the winters are cold. So be sure you dress appropriately because the weather can change in minutes.

The Center has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen, living room and dinning room. The hall has a cafeteria, two bathrooms and on the second floor a stage with a large area for seating. The center has a stove, refrigerator, and eating and cooking utensils, but no TV or radio. You only need food, toiletries, a towel and sleeping bag.

The St. Peter’s Church and Hall will accommodate about 150 people. The Hall can be used like a barracks if everyone brought sleeping bags.

The road is paved to the church and the area is quiet with very little traffic (a couple of tractors and maybe a car).
Consecration Prayer to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament after Communion
Most kind Mother, we consecrate to you our bodies, which have just been honored and sanctified by the presence of your Divine Son, our souls, which have conversed with Him, and our hearts, which have loved Him.
O Dearest Mother, may the words, which we have spoken, be made acceptable to Him through your intercession. Tell Him the things, which we should have said but were unable to express. Love Him and beseech Him for us, your poor children.
Receive and keep us in your Heart. Warn us, protect us and guide us during this day that we may faithfully serve your Divine Son, and please Him in all our thoughts, desires and actions.
